The "Wee Lassie" is an 11' double paddle lapstrake canoe. It is my
own handcrafted version in the spirit of Henry Rushton , Pete Culler and
Walt Simmons and is made of cedar oak and cherry.
If you've never paddled a canoe of this type you are in for a treat.
You sit on the bottom using a boat cushion, and use a double bladed paddle.
This makes a very stable, easy to paddle craft. These boats are a far
cry from the mass produced boats and are sure to be a source of pride and
enjoyment for years to come. The boat is surprisingly fast and seaworthy
for it's length and the double paddle allows paddling in wind and waves with
ease and confidence.
Construction details of the Wee Lassie include white cedar planking
over a mahogany keel and stem and oak frames. The rails, breasthook and other
fittings are of various hardwoods usually cherry, mahogany or butternut.
Plank laps and frames are copper clench nailed. All other fastenings are
copper or bronze. The usual finish is varnish outboard and penetrating marine
oil inboard. Most details are open to customer input.
