This 13' double paddle lapstrake canoe is my own handcrafted version
in the spirit of Henry Rushton , Pete Culler and Walt Simmons and is made
of cedar oak and cherry.
If you've never paddled one of this type you are in for a treat.
You sit on a small caned seat, and use a double bladed paddle. This makes
a very stable, easy to paddle craft. These boats are a far cry from
the mass produced boats and are sure to be a source of pride and enjoyment
for years to come. The boat is suprisingly fast and seaworthy for it's length
and the double paddle allows paddling in wind and waves with ease and
confidence.
Construction details of these boats include white cedar planking
over oak keel, stem and frames. The rails, sheerstrake and other fittings
are of various hardwoods usually cherry, mahogany or butternut. Plank laps
are clench nailed while frames and rails are copper riveted. All other fastenings
are copper or bronze. The usual finish is varnish outboard and penetrating
marine oil inboard. Most details are open to customer input.
